Liam Payne

Born in 1993, English pop singer Liam Payne first made waves with The X Factor judges when he auditioned for the show in 2008 at the age of 14. Although he didn’t make the cut, Simon Cowell asked Payne to return in two years time. The singer did just that, appearing on The X Factor’s seventh season in 2010 and wowing the judges once again with his rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River.” Eventually, the judges teamed Payne up with fellow X Factor solo contestants Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, effectively making him one-fifth of One Direction. The British fivesome quickly took the world by storm with their infectious and lovable pop songs -- many of which Payne has helped write -- over the course of four wildly successful albums.
