YouTube is full of bad amateur covers of Adele's 'Someone Like You,' but that's part of what comes with living in a free society where people can post what they wish. Not everyone in the world has the same freedom, however, and that's why a YouTube cover of a 13-year-old Iranian girl named Tara performing the song is attracting so much attention.

The video, which has garnered more than 270,000 views since it was uploaded a week ago, shows Tara belting out the track in impressive fashion. Massoud Hayoud of The Atlantic saw the video and wrote a blog post applauding Tara for standing up to her government, saying that her performance was a brave violation of a 1979 law banning female vocalists in the country.

However, the man who posted the video, an Iranian citizen, disputes the idea that the girl broke any laws or is a hero in any way. In a video response, the user said, "She hasn't broken any rules. Iran is not the country that you think. I'm not sure about the neighbors of Iran, but at least in Iran, everything is alright... Iran is quite modern. We have all the things you have in your countries. We are knowledgeable, we are educated, and we know our rights."

He ended by thanking the viewers who left nice comments on Tara's video, saying, "You made her life quite happy because of your kind comments." Regardless of whether or not she was taking any political risks, Tara's video is worth seeing.
