The 2012 Grammy Awards attempted to capture the excitement and intensity of a music festival dance tent with a jam-packed dance music performance segment featuring Chris Brown, David Guetta, Lil Wayne, Foo Fighters and deadmau5.

2012 Grammy host LL Cool J and ?uestlove introduced the mashup with a nod to ‘Soul Train’ host Don Cornelius, who died two weeks ago. As hundreds of fans bounced up and down, Chris Brown strode onto stage rocking an old-school Run DMC look.

With David Guetta mixing the music from behind the turntables, Brown sang ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ the song he appears on from Guetta’s ‘Nothing but the Beat’ album. Lil Wayne is also a featured performer on the track, and it wasn’t long before Weezy came out to offer a verse.

As that song faded, the Foo Fighters, winners of numerous Grammy awards, appeared at the opposite end of the tent and began playing a hard rock song ('Rope') that had little to do with dance music. The Foos’ presence in the dance segment didn’t seem to make much sense until deadmau5 appeared from behind a curtain.

Wearing his trademark giant light-up mouse head, deadmau5 stood behind a turntable several feet in the air and provided the music as the Foos and the DJ presented an unlikely combination of synthesizers and electric guitars. Finally, the Foo Fighters stepped out and let deadmau5 take the spotlight. The 2011 Lollapalooza headliner closed out the segment with the Grammy-nominated 'Raise Your Weapon' as the fans below danced to the dubstep track.
