Kelly Clarkson opened the 2018 Billboard Music Awards with a powerful call to action.

Before handing the stage over to Ariana Grande for the night's debut performance, the first-time host took a moment to address the Santa Fe High School shooting that left 10 people dead in Texas on Friday, May 18.

"Once again, ya'll, we're grieving for more kids who have died for no reason at all," she said, visibly choking back tears. "Obviously we wanna pray for all the victims and do a moment of silence, but I'm so sick of moments of silence...it's not working, obviously. Why don't we do a moment of action, a moment of change? We need to do better."

Clarkson joins a number of celebrities who've spoken out following the shooting, including Selena Gomez, Khalid, Nick Jonas, Kim Kardashian West, and 13 Reasons Why star Dylan Minnette.

"I am at a complete loss for words watching yet another school shooting," Gomez tweeted on Friday. "This time in my home state of Texas. Congress continues to do absolutely nothing and it's infuriating."
