Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' song 'Same Love' is nominated for the 2014 Grammy for Song of the Year. It is a powerful and watershed track, since it's about equality for same-sex unions. The rappers are putting their money where their mouths are, since 34 couples are slated to marry during their performance of the song at this year's Grammys (Jan. 26).

Queen Latifah is on board to officiate, while Madonna, a pioneer who has long supported gay rights from the earliest days of her career, will join them. There can't be gay marriages at the Grammys without Madge's participation.

The couples will be of all diversities -- "gay, straight, old, young, of many races and many colors," according to Lewis, whose sister Laura will swap vows with her boyfriend during the perf.

"A night that is already tremendous for me, for the music," Lewis told The New York Times. "But to have my sister get married and my family there watching it—that makes it a whole other level of amazing."

Having couples, including those of same sex, wed during the performance is, according to Lewis, "the ultimate statement of equality, that all the couples are entitled to the same exact thing."

Amen to that. History will be made.
