Imagine one day you’re hanging out with your best friends, you decide to throw a few YouTube videos of yourselves on video and then the next day you’re touring the world, opening up for one of the biggest bands on the planet. Girls, boys, beings of all kinds (sentient and non) are screaming your name and suddenly you can’t go anywhere without a mob forming around you.

Throw in some Australian accents and that’s pretty much what happened to the boys of 5 Seconds of Summer. We can’t even imagine what it would feel like if we were suddenly thrust into the spotlight like that, but it looks like the guys have a great support system within the band so as to not make things too overwhelming.

Calum remembers a piece of advice Ashton gave him at one point that apparently "hit him hard." Speaking with News Corps, Cal said (quote via Sugarscape): "I was just sitting in the dressing room backstage in LA and Ashton came up to me an hour before the show and said 'This is your chance to have an influence on people as a performer.' And that really hit me. I look up to Billie Joe [of Green Day] and Dave Grohl [of Foo Fighters] and how they are on stage.”

Both musicians Calum named are near-living legends -- well, Dave Grohl is a certified living legend, anyway, considering his current stint as the controlling force behind Foo Fighters, one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, which followed his previous stint as the drummer for one of the most influential rock bands of all time, Nirvana. So we totally understand where Calum's coming from in wanting to leave a lasting impact on his audience. It's some really solid advice on Ashton's part, and we love knowing that the guys are always there for each other.

Another way the boys deal with their newfound fame? They keep things light. It wouldn't really be 5SOS if they were super serious all the time, would it? From dressing up as Target employees to creating fake dating profiles for each other, we love that they can manage to keep things totally fun. They surprised everyone by showing up to HOT 99.5's Jingle Ball dressed like a group of old people. Calum and Ashton are decked out in silver mustaches and khakis, while Luke and Michael opted for more feminine looks. You can check that photo out above. We love that they keep things fresh by dressing old. Oh 5SOS, never change.
