About to Pop: Adele, Bruno Mars + More Singles
Cher Lloyd is the newest About to Pop champ — congratulations to the ‘Oath’ songstress and her troop of Bratz, who helped Cher take the top spot in last week’s poll with their voting efforts! This means her latest ‘Sticks + Stones’ single, ‘Oath’ (featuring rapper/songwriter Becky G), will receive 20+ spins on PopCrush’s nationwide radio show this weekend! Check out a list of stations where you can tune in here.
So, what’s in the pipeline for this week’s About to Pop poll? After spending a few months out of the spotlight, mom-to-be Adele has returned as the latest Bond girl… well, the latest James Bond theme song girl. Ms. Atkins is following in the footsteps of chanteuses like Shirley Bassey, as the Grammy-winning songstress recorded the title track for the upcoming 007 flick ‘Skyfall.’ After hearing the soulful, classically-orchestrated track, it’s clear that Adele’s inimitable voice has made a full recovery since her surgery earlier this year.
Bruno Mars is also in the running for About to Pop with his funky new single ‘Locked Out of Heaven,’ which shows a lot of growth from a lot of his ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ tracks. Co-produced and co-written by Mark Ronson, ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ has that retro, neo-soul vibe we’d come to expect from the U.K. hit maker. Mars also incorporates a lot of reggae-rock influences into the tune — in some parts of the song, Mars’ spot-on vocals also bear a big resemblance to Sting, and the entire track sounds like it could’ve very well appeared somewhere on the Police‘s discography.
If you aren’t feeling the new Adele or Bruno track, check out Pink‘s powerful, pick-yourself-back-up ballad ‘Try,’ which is returning one last time for fans to vote on. We’ve also got Ellie Goulding‘s chilling, piano-driven love song ‘I Know You Care’ in this week’s About to Pop, as well as Hunter Hayes‘ adorable, lovestruck, country crossover tune ‘Wanted.’
Take a listen to all of this week’s nomianted tracks below and vote on your favorite until the About to Pop poll closes on Oct. 15 at 3PM EST. Remember, you can vote once per hour!
