'Inception' actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt channeled Kurt Cobain with a performance of Nirvana's 'Lithium' this week in the band's hometown of Seattle.

The performance was part of 'HitRECord at the Movies with Joseph Gordon-Levitt,' an event for the actor's hitrecord.org site, which describes itself as "a professional open collaborative production company." Fans were encouraged to bring their cameras for an interactive night of music, videos and art.

"I just wanna play this song in this town," Gordon-Levitt said, showing his love of grunge as he began a thoroughly competent solo cover of 'Lithium' on electric guitar.

He stopped mid-song for a personal interlude and earned cheers when he said, "You know, it seems like every time people bring up Nirvana, people wanna talk about how Mr. Cobain killed himself. And I gotta say, it doesn't matter to me. It doesn't matter that he's dead. It doesn't matter how he died. His songs are f---ing awesome. That's what matters."
