Former ‘American Idol’ runner-up Adam Lambert will be honored at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, set to take place on May 11 at the San Francisco Hilton. The singer will receive the Davidson/Valentini Award for his activism within the LGBT community.

"Adam Lambert's continued success as one of the world's best-selling pop stars shows LGBT people that they can be themselves and make it in a mainstream industry that many feel unfairly rejects them," said GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz in a statement. "Adam is fearless on stage and astonishes audiences in every country he performs in."

Lambert passionately supports gay marriage equality, and being openly gay himself, he's no stranger to the struggles faced by many in the LGBT community. Earlier this month, he received homophobic complaints at his concert in Singapore, but he refused to let them break his stride.

Among other artists being recognized at the upcoming GLAAD Media Awards are Frank Ocean and ‘Glee.’ Lambert and Ocean are competing against each other in the Outstanding Music Artist category for their albums ‘Trespassing’ and ‘Channel Orange,’ while ‘Glee’ is up for the Outstanding Comedy Series award.
