Since making his debut on American Idol back in 2009, glam-rock superstar Adam Lambert has become as known for his big voice as for his theatricality and Idol controversy.

Easily one of contemporary pop music's powerhouse vocalists, the San Diego native became the season 8 runner-up of FOX's hit reality competition, getting beaten out by ultimate winner Kris Allen, only to have his profile explode after the show's wrap.

In late 2009, the pop artist delivered his debut album, For Your Entertainment, to much aplomb, the record featuring production work by the like of Max Martin and superstar writers including Ryan Tedder, Lady Gaga, Linda Perry, and Pink. (Not bad for an artist's debut, huh?)

Whether it's his Captain Jack Sparrow-level penchant for black eyeliner, his Broadway rock-opera style bravado, or even his over-the-top glam-rock stage ensembles, Lambert is not easy to ignore—but it's his vocal prowess, with all its expansive range and emotional weight, that is arguably most captivating.

From bringing down the house with an explosive cover of "Somebody To Love" alongside Queen in 2014, to quietly stunning the crowd on VH1 with a stripped-down rendition of "Broken," we've compiled some of the celebrated American Idol alum's best live vocals over the years. Watch above.
