Adam Levine Covers Paper, Talks Marriage Fascination + Being a Pain in the A–

Adam Levine Paper Cover

Adam Levine and his handsome, five o’clock shadowed face grace the cover of the May issue of Paper. Quick, someone text Jennifer Love Hewitt, who has admitted to crushing on the newly single superstar, so she can nab a copy of the mag, which is on stands tomorrow (April 27). It’s a simple and classic image of the singer, who is classically and simply good looking.

Levine is quite self-aware and candid in the feature and he knows that his role as Maroon 5 lead singer, ‘The Voice‘ coach and ‘American Horror Story’ guest star could lead him to crumble from the dreaded pop culture overexposure that can kill a legitimate musician’s career. The band named its forthcoming album ‘Overexposed,’ so Levine is in on “the joke,” for lack of a better word. He knows this much media attention can be a detriment, saying, “I feel the potential of overexposure and it’s a very real feeling.”

That’s why the band is taking advantage of Levine riding a massive crest of fame as a “brand” and releasing the album sooner than later. The singer said, “We’ve kind of succumbed to the fact that that’s what’s going on. It’s better to know about it and make light of it because I don’t think we ever want the music to be overshadowed. You can’t get sick of us if we’re already sick of ourselves.”

Another self-aware revelation? Levine knows he can be a pain in the patoot. “I can be a huge pain in the a–, huge pain in the a–,” he declared. “That’s part of who I am and there’s not a person I know who doesn’t think I’m a pain in the a–. But I’m also really nice and a completely affable and socially adept person. There’s a difference between being an a–hole and a pain in the a–.” Socially adept but a pain in the a–? A decent enough combo, JLH?

Butt pain aside, Levine is also totally enthralled by the concept of marriage, even though he is newly back on the market after two years with model Anne V. “I want to study marriage,” Levine said. Perhaps in his research he can unearth why half of all unions end in divorce. He continued, I want to learn about it. I want to know it. I want to figure out whether or not I want to do it. I’m not just going to leap into it, because that’s not good for anybody.”
