On tonight's 'American Idol,' Haley Reinhart sang Alanis Morissette's angsty, angry girl anthem 'You Oughta Know.' While we were wondering how the 'Idol' censors were going to handle the lyric about "going down on you in a theater," we were also surprised at how well Reinhart took ownership of such a strong song, especially one that is so instantly identifiable with the woman who originally made it famous.

Reinhart opened her performance by sitting on the steps, with her leg extended in front of her, in a dominant, don't-mess-with-me position. Sadly, though, Reinhart forgot some of the words in the verse and was unable to hide or fake her way through it. She effed up. She knew it. We noticed. The rest of America did, too.

Surprisingly, the judges heaped praise on the performance, not acknowledging her memory lapse. Perhaps they didn't want to give her a complex with another harsh critique. Regardless, 'You Oughta Know' is a femme fatale song and Reinhart submerged herself in the sexy girl moments, infusing the song with sultry soul.

It was still signature Haley Reinhart. Now it's up to America to vote.
