During Elton John week, the wild child that is 'American Idol' hopeful James Durbin gave the show a much needed jolt of adrenaline, as he infused a ballad-filled, uncharacteristically quiet episode with his signature rock 'n' roll flair.

Durbin's take on John's high-octane, uptempo 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting' was good-time, feel-good rock. We have come to expect this from Durbin over the course of the season, as he has tackled everyone from Judas Priest to Bon Jovi.

Tonight, Durbin really tore up the stage, dancing, engaging the audience, and even doing splits in mid air. Yes, splits! We don't know how he didn't rip the seam in the crotch of his pants. Durbin really does have rock star in his DNA. Every time he takes the stage, he proves that he was born to perform and entertain large amounts of people.

Judge Randy Jackson commented on the fact that Durbin enjoys what he does. It's true that Durbin looks and acts the part. His performances are full of life and vigor, and that's "the goop that American Idols are made of," to borrow a phrase from Steven Tyler.
