Andy Samberg + Adam Sandler Sing About Breaking Character on ‘Saturday Night Live’ 40th Anniversary Special [VIDEO]

In what was one of the absolute highlights of the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special, Andy Samberg and Adam Sandler teamed up for a self-referential digital short about all the times the actors on the show have broken character by cracking up. It’s always one of the best parts of a skit, because there’s something about seeing other people laugh that makes us laugh — no matter how good or bad the actual skit may be.

The fact that Adam and Andy were the two to deliver it via song — our preferred collaboration from them — was even funnier. Lyrics include, “It’s the night of the show / Your sketch is killin’ / The audience is having the time of their lives / When suddenly it hits you / A case of the giggles / And that’s when you break / Let the smile cover your face / That’s when you break / The audience is eating it up / That’s when you break.”

They went on to sing about how sometimes breaking is intentional, calling out Bill Hader specifically. There was even a tribute to Lorne Michaels that just had the word ‘Lorne’ in all caps imposed over different shots of him, as well as his propensity for nursing a glass of white wine backstage. They then went on to show an amazing compilation of the different times actors have broken on the show. Our favorite part? There were five separate clips of Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz breaking character — both are notorious for doing it — and we seriously could not stop laughing.
