The television world lost an icon today, as Ann B. Davis, best known as Alice Nelson from the TV show ‘The Brady Bunch,’ has died at the age of 88.

CNN reports that a close friend of Nelson’s confirmed that she passed away in a hospital in San Antonio, Texas on June 1. Nelson was being treated for a subdural hematoma as a result of a head injury the day before, but never regained consciousness.

Davis had her first breakout role on ‘The Bob Cummings Show’ from 1955 to 1959, where she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series twice.

But it was her role on ‘The Brady Bunch’ that made her a Hollywood legend. Davis played Alice Nelson, who was the housekeeper for America’s most famous TV family from 1969 to 1974. As Alice, Davis was often the source of wisecracks and jokes, which often resulted in the familiar catchphrase, “Oh, Alice!” In many episodes, she was often seen as the mediator between the two step families, having provided an impartial view to the conflicts that often arose between the kids.

After ‘The Brady Bunch,’ Davis continued living a busy life, as she did theater, commercials, published a cookbook, and even made a cameo appearance in the 1995 ‘The Brady Bunch’ film based on the TV show.

We send our condolences to the Davis family and ‘Brady’ fans everywhere, especially those who grew up with Alice and the Bradys.
