New Roc Nation signee Arlissa is opening a lot of eyes with her debut ‘Sticks & Stones,’ a pop song with a forceful beat, a bit of tribal influence, and vocals that remind many of Florence Welch.

The London-raised performer was named to the BBC Sound of 2013 list as one of the emerging artists to watch for this year. That’s especially true now that she has signed with Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation team and plans to release ‘Sticks & Stones’ as an official single on iTunes. The 20-year-old has already collaborated with Nas on the song ‘Hard to Love Somebody,’ and based on its initial buzz, ‘Sticks & Stones’ could be headed for commercial success.

Arlissa cites left-of-center pop acts like Vampire Weekend, Regina Spektor and Peter Gabriel as her influences. She says of her initial batch of songs, “I wanted the music to be as organic as possible, so I used a lot of big drums and real sounds, as opposed to artificial ones. I’m quite proud of the sound we have created.”

Expect to hear ‘Sticks & Stones’ on the airwaves March 3. Also worth hearing is the Friction remix of ‘Sticks & Stones,’ which tosses vibrant piano flourishes and synths in into the mix. Check it out below.
