Though their relationship ultimately ended, at one point in the mid-2000s, Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy musician Pete Wentz were the pinnacle of couple goals, and their pairing seemed like a match made in pop-punk heaven.

Simpson and Wentz, who first met at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2006, spent the first two years of their courtship dodging speculation and rumors, before finally admitting their engagement on April 9, 2008.

"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. We wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us," the former couple shared in a joint statement posted in a blog (on the now-defunct web site FriendsorEnemies.com) ten years ago today.

A goth-themed wedding in California soon followed in May, and months later, in November 2008, the couple welcomed their son, Bronx Mowgli. Alas, things between Wentz and Simpson were not meant to be: Just three years later, the "Pieces of Me" filed for divorce on February 9, 2011, citing irreconcilable differences.

Since then, the two have forged ahead in their own careers and personal lives: In 2014, Simpson wed actor Evan Ross. Two years later, they welcomed a daughter. In 2014, Wentz and his current girlfriend, Meagan Camper, had a son, and in January 2018, the rocker announced that they are expecting another child together.

Though they've gone down very different paths since their split, for a fleeting moment in music, Simpson and Wentz were the King and Queen of Emo. Below, revisit what once was with sixteen photos of the pop-punk pair through the years.
