Ben Affleck’s Pissed Casey Affleck Didn’t Mention Him in Golden Globes Speech
On last night's (January 9) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ben said he wasn't so thrilled to have been left out of Casey's acknowledgements for his Manchester by the Sea win, which mentioned Denzel Washington, Amazon Studios and the better part of Hollywood.
"He thanked a s---load of people," Ben said. "Someone was omitted. I was a little taken aback. That's not the kind of thing I would do. If it's me, I thank people."
Kimmel, in a self-professed "insane" move, pulled up Ben's Oscar win for 1997's Good Will Hunting — in which Ben thanks Casey — for reference. This, Kimmel said, put into perspective just how pronounced a slight Casey's exclusion really was.
Still, Ben says he's excited about Casey's chances for an Oscar, which he said could represent a number of historic firsts.
"This would be the first time somebody won an Oscar who didn't brush his teeth from ages 10 to 14," Ben said. "It would be the very first time someone wins an Oscar who pulls his pants all the way down at the urinal...The first person to win who's scared of butterflies. The first person to win an Oscar who touched himself to Vicki the robot from Small Wonder."
Casey thanked at least some of his family members — his children — during his Golden Globes speech, noting "It’s my kids who give me permission to do this because they have the character to keep at bay all the noise that sometimes surrounds people who live publicly."
