Best Perfume – 2012 PopCrush Music Awards

You know you've reached superstar status when you get your own perfume, and 2012 brought 11 standout scents from a (mostly female) selection of pop stars. Out of the celebrity fragrances we've selected, which perfume deserves to be crowned the best of 2012?

Being the Renaissance woman that she is, brand-new mom Beyonce somehow managed to launch her second perfume, Midnight Heat, in the summer of 2012.  The scent has "fruity flavors of plum" and star fruit, as well as floral tones and an "oriental base of warm amber, sandalwood and patchouli," according to Fragrantica.

But would you rather be spritzed with one of the scents in Britney Spears' new fragrance combo package, Fantasy Twist? In a press release about the duel fragrance, a combo of popular past scents Fantasy and Midnight Fantasy, Brit said, "With Britney Spears Fantasy Twist, I wanted to combine two of my favorite fragrances into a sophisticated bottle, giving my fans the power to choose the scent they desire at any given moment."

Then there's Brit's former teen queen rival, Christina Aguilera, who added another perfume to her collection in 2012 with Red Sin. The driving scents behind this sexy fragrance are apple, cinnamon, ginger, musk, and sandalwood, while Fragrantica also notes that "the heart features sweet and red flowers of cyclamen that is traditionally used in love potions."

Meanwhile, British newcomer Cher Lloyd unveiled her first, limited edition fragrance  Pink Diamond in 2012, a sweet scent with hints of vanilla and fruity flavors. On the other hand, superstar swoon inducer Justin Bieber followed up the success of his first fragrance, Boyfriend, with his second perfume, Girlfriend. According to Macy's, the perfume has whiffs of "sparkling pear, crisp mandarin, rich blackberry and mara strawberry."

Another powerhouse perfume that hit the market this year was Lady Gaga's Fame. From the black tint of the liquid to the nude, mini men marketing campaign, nothing about Gaga's scent was conventional, and we'd expect nothing less. To give you an overall gist of the actual smell, it has hints of honey drops, saffron, apricot, jasmine, orchid, and a poisonous flower called Belladonna (you can read more on its complexity here).

Call it reductive (kidding!), but like Lady Gaga, Madonna also released her first-ever scent in 2012. The scent is called Truth or Dare, after Madonna's famous documentary of the same name, and it's primarily categorized as a white floral eau de parfum. Madge's 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' co-star Nicki Minaj also joined the diva perfume circle this year with Pink Friday, a blend of berries, vanilla, musk and lotus flowers.

Finally, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift also launched new fragrances this year. RiRi shed her clothes to promote Nude, her third perfume that is reminiscent of bare skin with woody and musky scents, as well as fruity concoctions of guava, pear and orange blossom. While RiRi was stripping, Selena Gomez was getting submerged to promote her her eponymous debut eau de parfum, a super sweet raspberry scent. And finally, Sel's BFF Taylor went for a similar smell for Wonderstruck Enchanted, a berry, poppy and passion fruit hybrid.
