Sometimes people crave a professional change, especially when it comes to the entertainment industry. Over the years, there have been several songstresses who have transitioned into film roles, with many of the ladies in our readers poll impressing us with their acting skills. But it doesn’t matter what we think! This is a readers poll, so we want all of you to weigh in on who the best songstress turned actress is.

First up in our readers poll is Beyonce, who gained attention for her roles in ‘Austin Powers in Goldmember,’ ‘Dreamgirls’ and for portraying Etta James in ‘Cadillac Records.’ Oscar winner Cher is another diva who exercised her acting chops in films like ‘Moonstruck’ ‘Mask,’ ‘Mermaids’ and, more recently, ‘Burlesque,’ where she acted alongside fellow vocalist / silver screen newcomer Christina Aguilera.

While we’re on the subject of Oscar trophies, Jennifer Hudson blew everyone away when she moved from an ‘American Idol’ reject to Academy Award winner for her role as Effie in ‘Dreamgirls.’ And while she hasn’t won a golden statue yet for her performances, Madonna has also acted in several movies during her long-spanning career, including roles in ‘Desperately Seeking Susan,’ ‘Dick Tracy’ and ‘Evita.’

Even though she hasn’t been singing for a while, Mandy Moore, who got her start with sugary pop tunes like ‘Candy,’ made our sides split with her roles as witches with a capital “B” in flicks like ‘Saved!‘ and ‘The Princess Diaries.’ Meanwhile, veteran diva and new mama Mariah Carey also wowed us when she portrayed a strong-willed and caring social worker in the dramatic film ‘Precious.’

Rihanna will also have her mug sprawled across theater screens when her action movie ‘Battleship‘ premieres in May 2012 (although we’ve already seen her acting in cinematic music videos like her epic ‘We Found Love’ clip). Country cutie Taylor Swift is another songstress turned actress — the ‘Mean’ singer-songwriter has starred in the rom-com ‘Valentine’s Day‘ alongside then BF Taylor Lautner, and also voiced the character of Audrey in the animated Dr. Seuss flick ‘The Lorax.’ Finally, what would this poll be without Whitney Houston, who starred in films like ‘The Bodyguard‘ and ‘The Preacher’s Wife’ during her lifetime.
