In the past, Beyonce has stirred up some controversy for lightening the shade of her skin in a series of L'Oreal ads. Once again, the pop singer is catching a lot of buzz for changing the shade of her skin, but this time around the 'Single Ladies' singer is darkening her complexion.

In a shoot with the French Magazine, L'Officiel Paris, Beyonce darkened her skin as a tribute to the late great Nigerian musician and social activist, Fela Kuti. The Beyonce/Kuti issue is in celebration of the magazine's 90th anniversary.

The magazine released a quote saying that Beyonce's face "was voluntarily darkened" as a return to Beyonce's "African roots." When asked more about the shoot, L'Officiel Paris also said, "Far from the glamorous Sasha Fierce, the beauty posed for the magazine with amazing fashion designers' clothes, but also in a dress created by her mother ... All the pictures will be available in the collector edition, on sale at the end of this month."

As soon as news got out about Beyonce's photo shoot, people all over the Internet have been expressing their opinions on the matter. Some seem to think that the magazine is simply using the skin-darkening as a means of artistic expression, while others feel that the magazine and the pop singer are being crude in their perception of race.
