UPDATE 2 (2/6): Following the surprise release of “Formation” hours ago, Entertainment Tonight now confirms that Beyoncé will be performing the song live at the Super Bowl. “Sources confirms to ET that the singer will be performing the surprise song, titled ‘Formation,’ on Sunday during the halftime show at Levi’s stadium in Santa Clara, California,” they wrote in an exclusive.

UPDATE (2/5): Bruno Mars has officially confirmed his upcoming involvement in Super Bowl 50, making the impending halftime performance all the more appealing.

Mars posted a photo to Instagram, writing, “It ain’t a party if Mr $how Up & $how out doesn’t show up. #Confirmed #SB50 #Halftime #Coldplay #Beyonce #TheBrunz #Shwaaaggg.”

UPDATE (January 7): According to Entertainment Tonight, unnamed sources have confirmed that Beyonce will join Coldplay onstage during their Super Bowl halftime performance. Although not confirmed, it’s been widely speculated that they’ll perform the Beyonce collaboration “Hymn for the Weekend,” off Coldplay’s latest release A Head Full of Dreams.

There’s no word yet as to whether Rihanna will also join Coldplay onstage, but fingers crossed.

Coldplay have already been billed as the headliners for the upcoming 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show — an announcement that was met with mixed reactions. But for those of you who were initially disappointed with the news, fear not. It looks like both Beyonce and Rihanna may currently be in talks to join Coldplay onstage during the February 7 performance.

According to The Daily Mirror, frontman Chris Martin is hoping to lock both performers in for the show. A source said, “Chris and his band know they’re not typically as showy as recent performers like Katy Perry and Madonna with all the dancers and, while they love a light show, they still want to bring a few surprises out.”

So far, so good. The source goes on to claim that both artists have shown interest in performing at the Super Bowl: “Beyonce and Rihanna are both keen to join in the high-profile ceremony and will add just the spark needed to make it an amazing and unforgettable show.”

Both collaborations make sense: Rihanna recorded a duet with Chris Martin for the 2011 Coldplay album Mylo Xyloto called “Princess of China,” and Beyonce contributed vocals to two songs (“Hymn for the Weekend” and “Up & Up”) on Coldplay’s latest release, A Head Full of Dreams.

Martin recently commented on the upcoming performance, saying, “That’s a big, big, big, big, big honor. It’s something we’ve dreamed about for a long time and it’s almost surreal we’re going to do it. We’re so focused on it right now, in terms of the detail, it allows us to ignore the fact of just how giant it is.”

He’s also aware that their show will be the source of scrutiny: “There’s going to be lots of opinions, which is OK.”

Super Bowl 50 will air on CBS on  Sunday, February 7, 2016.
