‘Big Brother’ Star ‘Evel’ Dick Donato Reveals He Has HIV
He's known as one of the toughest competitors in 'Big Brother' history but on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 'Evel' Dick Donato revealed that he is battling HIV.
Fans will remember Donato as the winner of 'Big Brother' Season 8 in 2007. In 2011, Donato later returned to Season 13 of the show but left six days into the competition. At the time, the show explained that Donato had to leave due to personal reasons.
People reports that on the Wednesday, Oct. 1, episode of VH1's 'Couples Therapy,' Donato finally reveals that he left 'Big Brother' Season 13 after producers learned that he was HIV positive, and was forced to quit the game.
Donato tells Dr. Jenn Berman on 'Couples Therapy,' "When you go on ['Big Brother'], they give you a billion tests. And it turned out I was HIV positive. It was just one of the most surreal times in my entire life."
In an interview with People, Donato says that despite his diagnosis, he is doing well these days. "My viral load is virtually undetectable, I'm happy to say. I live a very normal life and don't have a lot of health issues. It also means that it's highly unlikely I could pass the disease along, although I don't have unsafe sex anymore. I fully expect to die of something else when I get old, not HIV or AIDS."
