According to the Independent, Bollywood actress Veena Malik has been sentenced to 26 years of jail time for blasphemy, after appearing in a staged wedding scene on television.

The scene itself was apparently met with controversy when it first aired, and has since resulted in not only Veena's jail time sentece, but that of her husband's, Asa Bashir Khan, and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman -- chief executive of the biggest media group in Pakistan. All were sentenced to 26 years of prison time for blasphemy.

Veena is not staying quiet, however, as she reportedly said in an interview with Gulf News (via the Independent): "26 years! Come on. 26 years is a lifetime... But I have faith in higher courts in Pakistan. When the final verdict comes, it will do justice to me. Nothing bad is going to happen."

The Independent goes on to claim that the court order against Veena apparently says: "The malicious acts of the proclaimed offenders ignited the sentiments of all the Muslims of the country and hurt the feelings, which cannot be taken lightly and there is need to strictly curb such tendency."

Because the court order -- which is specifically for the city of Gilgit -- may be enforced by a region that is not necessarily considered a province by Pakistan, Veena may not have to serve any jail time as the verdict does not apply to the entire country.

Meanwhile, Veena is fighting the court order, saying: "I have always been a person who faced troubles by looking it in the eye. I have faced highs and lows in my life. But I am sure I haven't done anything wrong."
