Britney Spears is North America's representative in the MTV Europe Music Awards' new Worldwide Act category, which pits stars from various regions of the world against each other in an online, fan-voted competition.

Spears emerged as North America's candidate after fans voted to narrow down the finalists. Now, Britney will do battle with four acts that aren't well-known in the U.S. Representing Europe is German singer Lena, who won the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Latin America's entrant is Brazilian pop band Restart, while South Korean boy band BigBang reps Asia and singer Abdelfattah Grini represents the Africa/India/Middle East region.

The winner will be determined by fan voting, so Spears fans should get over to the award show's website to lend their support. Voting remains open until next Friday, Nov. 4.

In addition to the Worldwide Act category, Spears is also up for the Best Pop trophy. Selena Gomez hosts the shindig, which takes place on Nov. 6 and will feature performances by Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Jessie J, Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
