Britney Spears Has the No. 1 Song of 2011 on Rolling Stone’s Top 25 Countdown
Rolling Stone's Pop Life blog has just unleashed their list of the 'Top 25 Songs of 2011,' and author Rob Sheffield is really mixing it up on his countdown. Forget Adele! Britney Spears is the No. 1 artist on the list, snagging the spot for her "fiendishly inventive" 'Femme Fatale' track 'How I Roll.'
Although 'How I Roll' isn't even a single off of Brit's seventh studio album, Sheffield has the song sitting pretty at No. 1 on his list because of the song's "tension-building sound effects" and plot, which pretty much sums up the "story of pop music." The song was produced by Bloodshy and Avant, who also produced her hits 'Toxic' and 'Piece of Me,' so it's no wonder why people like Sheffield are digging the song.
Big Sean and Beyonce are also front-runners on the Rolling Stone list, with the rapper's remix of 'Dance (A$$),' which features a verse from Nicki Minaj, landing at No. 2. Sheffield is a big fan of 'Dance (A$$), writing, "The Nicki showcase of the year, in a brilliantly titled avant-moron booty-clap bass throwback where the Hammer-time keyboard hook seems to beam in from another planet." Beyonce, who is referred to as the "most aggressively sane pop diva," comes in at No. 3 with her track 'Countdown.'
The most surprising aspects of this list? Well, first of all, Rebecca Black's 'Friday' is included on the countdown. What's even more surprising? She beat Adele on the list, coming in at No. 8 while the chart-topping British beauty comes in at No. 15 with 'Rolling in the Deep.'
Some other artists that made the list include Nicki Minaj (her tracks 'Super Bass' and 'Girlfriend' came in at No. 9 and No. 24, respectively), Rihanna ('We Found Love' is No. 11), Jay-Z and Kanye West (coming in at No. 6 for their Frank Ocean-featured track 'No Church in the Wild'), Avril Lavigne (No. 22 for 'What the Hell') and Lady Gaga (she rounds out the list at No. 25 with 'The Edge of Glory').
