'X Factor,' in effort to revamp the show and boost ratings, cleaned house earlier this year, firing half the judging panel and its host. Names like Beyonce and Mariah Carey were tossed around as possible replacements (and for huge sums of money), and now another female big gun is a frontrunner: Britney Spears. Word is Brit was offered a cool $10 million for a slot on the show.

Deadline reports that Spears met with judge and producer Simon Cowell and the show has moved forward with its mega offer. It'd be a mutually beneficial partnership on multiple fronts. The show would get a boost from Spears' star power, since the public still cares about what she is doing, on and off the stage, meaning more of her fans would tune in. She has also "been there, done that," so she has plenty of advice, wisdom and experience to impart on the contestants.

In turn, Spears would be compensated on a level similar to her former rival Christina Aguilera, who supposedly pocketed a similar sum for the third season of 'The Voice.' Jennifer Lopez banked $12 million for 'American Idol' so Brit would be in the upper echelon, salary-wise, of pop divas judging reality singing competitions.

During a conference call regarding the show, Cowell gushed about Brit Brit, saying, "Are we flattered there would be interest from Britney Spears? Yes."

He was similarly positive during a radio interview, admitting to being " fascinated by Britney" since she is "one of the most talked about — not just pop stars but people — in the world today" which is a testament to her star power.

The normally acid-tongued TV mogul also complimented Brit on her "resilience" and how she has juggled her career, kids, and a not-so-kind press blitz in the past. Through it all, Cowell said, "She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she's still controversial."

Would Brit-as-judge make you more apt to watch 'X Factor' next season?
