E! aired the first in a two-part Keeping Up With the Kardashians special last night (May 17), following Bruce Jenner as he shared his transition as a transgender woman with his ex-wife and children.

About Bruce comes on the heels of Jenner’s interview with Diane Sawyer during which -- after weeks of tabloid reports -- the former Olympic athlete and reality TV star shared his experience with the public, identifying as “Her” while asking that reporters continue to refer to him with male pronouns.

In last night’s episode, E! documented the emotional conversation happening between the Kardashian family, as they struggled and strived toward acceptance -- a process Jenner aptly described as a need for grieving.

“Families of trans people often feel they need to grieve the loss of the person that they thought they know,” Jenner said in the episode (via The Daily Beast). “My family’s feelings are included here in the hope that other families will know that they are not alone, and to show that families move on from this grief. Today my family loves, supports and accepts me as I am -- and I am so grateful.”

Kylie and Kendall, Jenner’s children with his ex-wife, Kris Jenner, as well as his step children, Kourtney, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, all opened up about the varying and staggered ways in which they discovered and have dealt with their father’s transition.

Kim emphasized the importance in not only educating themselves on their father’s experiences, but also finding common ground with him. “We want to understand his struggle,” she said. “We want to learn about it. We want to relate to it in some way.” You can watch a clip of Part 2, in which Kim takes a look at Bruce's new wardrobe, above.

The second half of Keeping Up With the Kardashians: About Bruce airs on E! tonight (May 18).
