UPDATE (January 6): Fox just announced R&B group Boyz II Men will appear alongside Carly Rae Jepsen in Grease Live. The group will take on the role of the show’s Teen Angel(s) — originally portrayed by Frankie Avalon — singing the iconic “Beauty School Dropout.”

Carly Rae JepsenJessie J and Mario Lopez will appear in Fox’s upcoming live musical production Grease: Live.

According to Deadline, Fox announced that Carly Rae Jepsen has officially joined the show’s cast and will be playing the role of beauty school dropout Frenchy, while Pitch Perfect‘s Kether Donohue will play Jan and David Del Rio has been cast as Putzie.

Jessie J, meanwhile, won’t be part of the main cast, but she will perform a live version of the Barry Gibb-penned hit “Grease (Is the Word)” to open the show.

Mario Lopez has also joined the live production’s cast. Lopez, who’s long demonstrated his Broadway chops after starring in the hit musical “A Chorus Line,” is set to play the role of radio announcer Vince Fontaine. Lopez said in a statement (via Extra), “I’m excited to be a part of such an iconic musical as ‘Grease’ and to join a talented and cool cast. Just based on the music alone, I’m sure this is going to be the best live musical yet.”

Julianne Hough has already been cast to play the role of Sandy while Aaron Tveit will play Danny. Vanessa Hudgens, who played Mimi in Neil Patrick Harris’ terrible version of Rent, has been cast as Rizzo, while Big Time Rush’s Carlos Pena Vega will play the role of Kenickie. Scream Queens‘ Keke Palmer has also been cast as Marty.

Hough said in a statement, “Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy.”

Former Glee choreographer Zac Woodlee has also signed on to help with the production behind the scenes.

Grease: Live follows NBC’s 2013 live remake of Sound of Music, which starred Carrie Underwood and did well ratings-wise, and 2014’s Peter Pan Live! which starred Allison Williams and tanked. The show, which will be directed by Thomas Kail and Alex Ruzinski, is set to air on Fox on Sunday, January 31.
