He may have earned the season's sole save from the judges a few weeks back, but there was no saving bushy-haired, growly-voiced singer Casey Abrams this week. Abrams was officially eliminated from the competition on tonight's episode.

Abrams displayed a penchant for taking risks and flirting with the fringe element of entertaining and performing throughout his tenure on the show. Last night's jazzed out rendition of Carole King's 'Hi-De-Ho,' while edgy and daring, proved to be a little too far out in left field for mainstream America.

While we loved it when he stroked his stand up bass and that he rocked a shaggy, unkempt beard (or even the fact that he had the guts to sing a Nirvana song on 'Idol'), we weren't enamored by Abrams' overused growl. Even mentor Jimmy Iovine said that someone needs to tell Abrams that the family dog is not allowed to compete on 'Idol'!

Abrams' curtain call was as fun as some of his past performances, as he ran around the stage and even fake moshed and chest bumped his fellow male contestants.

While Casey Abrams was a bit too rough around the edges for 'American Idol,' he has undoubtedly begun to carve out his future in the music business, thanks to his lengthy stint on the show.

Only five hopefuls remain.
