Congratulations are in order for Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton's ever increasing family! According to Cate's rep, Lisa Kasteler, the couple adopted a baby girl. Kasteler released a statement saying (quote via USA Today), "The Upton family (Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton) have adopted a baby girl. No further details will be provided."

Media outlets began reporting the news while attaching the wrong name to their new child, so Kasteler released a final statement that revealed the girl's actual name. It said (via USA Today), "Because the baby's name has been misreported, Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton have asked that we announce the correct name. Her name is Edith Vivian Patricia Upton."

The couple now have four children together. In addition to newborn Edith, they also have three young boys: Six-year-old Ignatius Martin, 10-year-old Roman Robert and 13-year-old Dashiell John.

Back in 2009, Cate spoke with InStyle magazine, expressing her desire to have another child. She said (quote via Celebrity Baby Scoop), "I would love to have more children. Just when, I don't know. But the thing is we hadn't planned any of the others, they just popped out. So you shouldn't over-plan these things. If it happens it would be great."

In the same interview, she spoke about parenting in general, saying, "They develop differently. You work as hard as you can to not only foster, but protect your children. You want to encourage and help them develop, but most importantly not to screw them up. And then there’s a large part of them – even from when they feed as newborns and the way they sleep as newborns, the way they’re born – that are latent, early manifestations of their personality. If you release those then they gradually become more and more defined.”

We wish the best to Cate and Andrew and their family!
