CeeLo Green has explained that the viral footage of a cell phone exploding wasn't real, and is part of a project he's working on.

"I just want to let everybody know that I am alive, and I'm well and I'm O.K.," Green said in a Facebook Live update this past weekend. "And truthfully, I'm really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today."

Fans expressed their concerns and well wishes for the singer-producer after a video went viral on Saturday (Dec. 17) showing Green collapsing after his cell phone appeared to explode in his face.

The site MediaTakout posted a(n evidently fake) closed circuit surveillance video of the studio that Green is working in. He's seen chatting with some people before they leave the room, and Green spends some time on his phone. About 28 seconds into the video, the phone he's talking into explodes. Green then collapses on the floor and appears to be unresponsive.

The video spread through social media on Saturday, but as some worried for the artist, others questioned the video's authenticity — and it seems they were right.

"Actually what you saw today was a clip from a smaller video that we were shooting for a new project that I’m doing called Gnarly Davidson," he continued. "It’s supposed to set up and introduce the new character identity. I’m still going to release the music, but first and foremost to everybody that love me and care about me, I just wanted to let you know that I’m O.K."
