Cee Lo Green offers a tribute to Buddy Holly with an energetic take on '(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care,' which premiered on Idolator this week.

Green's cover is one of 19 remakes on the album 'Rave On Buddy Holly,' due in stores June 28, two months before what would have been the rock 'n roll legend's 75th birthday. 'Baby I Don't Care' was penned in the '50s by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the influential songwriting duo who had their own night on 'American Idol' this season.

Though Green's rendition lasts just 91 seconds, even shorter than the original, his version picks up the pace quite a bit with a lively acoustic guitar and bass joined by piano flourishes. Cee Lo changes the lyrics only slightly as he sings the tale of being smitten with an uncool girlfriend:

"You don't like crazy music, you don't like rockin' bands / You just wanna go to a movie show and sit there holdin' hands / You're so square, but I don't care."

Most Buddy Holly songs are so timeless that it's hard to mess them up. But this finger-snapping cover is especially vigorous and will probably be stuck in our heads for quite a while.

Holly was killed alongside Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper back in 1959, in a plane crash that became known as "the day the music died." Other notable acts contributing to the tribute album include Kid Rock, Paul McCartney, Fiona Apple and Florence & the Machine.
