Celebrities are just like us, right? In one way it’s undoubtedly true — balancing a career, personal life and family isn’t easy, whether you’re in the spotlight or not.

It’s all about balance for Aidan Bloom, the protagonist of Zach Braff’s latest directorial venture, ‘Wish I Was Here.’ The 35-year-old is at a crossroads where he needs to determine what he values most in life. As he navigates the precarious road of adulthood, he’s faced with choices that will transform his personal aspirations and relationships, and ultimately lead to a life-changing reordering of priorities.

We’re highlighting five celebrities who faced the same struggle as Aidan and succeeded at finding that ever-elusive balance. These stars have delicately managed their careers, personal lives and families, and exude genuine happiness and contentment in their choices. As Aidan learns, figuring it all out can be a battle — but these celebrities prove it’s worth it. (To find out how Aidan fares, check out ‘Wish I Was Here’ in select theaters now.)

  • Rick Moranis

If you’ve seen any movies from the ‘80s or ‘90s, you’ve probably seen Rick Moranis in a role or two. (Does ‘Ghostbusters’ or ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’ ring any bells?) His acting career was on fire when he abruptly retired in 1997. Where, exactly, did the funny man go? He went home, to take care of his children who had lost their mother (and his wife) to breast cancer. He wanted his kids to have a happy, stable childhood, one he felt could only be achieved with his full attention and focus on his family. Though Rick stepping away from the movie industry was a true loss to the world of comedy, there’s no one that embodies the ideal of family before fame more than he does.

  • Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato publicly struggled with her health and body image for years. Since her recovery, she’s found the courage to speak out on her battles with drug addictions and an eating disorder, and recently shared that her main incentive for sobriety is her little sister. The 21-year-old singer revealed that her final intervention included her mother threatening that she couldn’t be around her little sister if she continued on her path of self-destruction, and that was Demi’s figurative light bulb. She has since spoken about wanting to be a good role model for 12-year-old Madison, someone the budding actress can look up to — and she’s been doing a great job! We’re sure Madison is proud and that the family is in a happy place now.

  • The Kardashians

It’s no secret: The Kardashians are hungry for fame. They sell themselves to the media better than any other famous family out there. That being said, the Kardashian clan is impenetrable. However much they value fame, they clearly value the bond between each other more. Whenever one girl is in trouble in the media or the target of negative feedback online, another (or more) is right there to back her up. Remember when Kendall faced backlash over her topless photo shoot? Nearly all of her sisters jumped onto Twitter or Instagram to show their support. No one is quicker to defend a Kardashian than a fellow Kardashian!

  • Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck married and had their first child in 2005. Nine years later, they’re now a cozy family of five and Jennifer and Ben have got their hands full. With Ben currently filming his role as Batman in 'Batman vs. Superman,' due out in 2016, and Jennifer getting ready to promote her multiple 2014 film releases, there's no doubt this longterm couple has their hands full. Ben has gone on record multiple times to gush about his wife's parenting skills, calling her a "world-class mom." In our opinion, this happy family deserves a pat on the back! Acting is a demanding job, and three kids probably equates to a just-as-demanding job. Can you imagine balancing both? Ben and Jennifer are both superheroes in their own right.

  • Victoria and David Beckham

Victoria and David Beckham might be one of the most popular celebrity power couples, but first and foremost they are a family couple. The British stars are mom and dad to three boys and one girl between the ages of 15 and three. (Talk about a handful!) You might recognize the little Beckhams, because they’re frequently photographed at events with their parents. Mom and Dad may be busy working on their fashion and athletic careers respectively, but they’re never too busy for their family. This is one tight bunch.
