A celebrity's shelf life is sometimes shorter than any dairy product's, but if a singer or actor manages to last an entire decade in the industry, it's no doubt a testament to his or her ability to adapt — or, in some cases, overhaul his or her image completely.

In 2018, fresh stars like Dua Lipa, Cardi B and Shawn Mendes are dominating the top of Billboard charts. Still, they haven't completely overthrown previous legions of pop royalty. Acts like Britney SpearsLady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine are still going strong, and all have at least one thing in common — they've been in the game for more than 10 years.

And where pop is concerned, 2008 was a hell of a year.

Yup, a decade ago, Rihanna was topping charts with "Don't Stop the Music," Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" was blowing up and Miley Cyrus captivated a new audience with the edgier "See You Again." And then, of course, there came Katy Perry, whose "I Kissed a Girl" lured pop fans to Perry's fantasy Candy Lane for the first time. It was, to put it simply, a banner 12 months, and it's no surprise some of the year's standouts are still alive and kicking.

Below, we've plotted the current looks of acts like Adele, Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato against their previous 2008 visages to give you a little glimpse into how much can change in 10 years.
