Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill to Battle Aliens in ‘Jump Street’ / ‘Men in Black’ Crossover

What seemed like an outrageous idea is one step closer to actually happening: The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Sony Pictures is moving forward with making a Jump Street and Men in Black movie crossover a reality.

The trade reports that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will reprise their roles as undercover officers Jenko and Schmidt in the next installment of the action-comedy Jump Street franchise. Instead of going undercover in the world of drugs, however, the sequel will see them battling aliens as they step into the world of Men in Black. James Bobin (The Muppets) is in negotiations to direct the film. Production is expected to begin an early as this summer.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, the stars of the first three Men in Black films, are not expected to appear in the movie.

The idea of a Jump Street and Men in Black crossover was first revealed when hackers leaked thousands of emails from Sony Pictures employees. The premise was hatched as a parody of the recent trend of movie studios creating shared universes within their properties, such as Marvel’s wildly successful The Avengers franchise, and the forthcoming DC Comics universe that began with Man of Steel and will continue with this year’s Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, both of whom wrote and directed the first two Jump Street films, came up with the idea and hoped to direct again, but will instead work on a young Han Solo film for the Star Wars franchise.

So what do you think, movie fans? Are you looking forward to seeing Tatum and Hill go to war as the Men in Black?
