Miley Cyrus rose to fame at the age of 12 when she ambitiously self-submitted an audition tape for Disney's sitcom 'Hannah Montana.' She asked to play the lead's best friend, but Disney execs instead flew her to Hollywood to try out for the dual title role that would make her a star.

The wild success of the show made her an idol to tween girls, and later singles like 'Party in the U.S.A.' helped her gain mainstream cred. That said, she hasn't abandoned acting completely -- she's recently taken roles in films like 'The Last Song' (but we're thinking maybe she should've passed on 'LOL').
