We were pretty heartbroken when we learned earlier this year that Sofia Coppola had dropped out of the live-action flick based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale, The Little Mermaid. After all, who better to express the internal torture, emotive nuance, and sugar-coated aesthetics of the life of a teenage girl or young woman? (See: The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, and to some extent Lost In Translation.)

Luckily, a bit of fresh casting news has replenished both our interest and hope in the film. On Friday, Kick-Ass actress and all-around adorable Hollywood starlet Chloe Grace Moretz confirmed on her Instagram and Twitter accounts that she will indeed be portraying the titular mermaid in the upcoming movie.

"Here it is!" she shared excitedly on her social media. "I've been waiting months to tell everyone how excited I am to take on this beautiful journey with Working Title, Universal, and a beautiful script by Richard Curtis... The Little Mermaid! Here we go!"

Apparently, Chloe's casting has been kept a secret "for a while," reports Variety, who broke the news and also adds that "not much is known about how this version will compare to previous versions of the Hans Christian Andersen story." There are rumors, however, that Chloe's casting and/or the casting of a mainstream Hollywood actress like her was one of the main reasons Sofia walked away from the film, citing "creative differences."

So far, all we do know is that Richard Curtis (Love, Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary) is in talks to write the screenplay, and that the film will be produced by Working Title. No matter what happens though, we can't wait to be part of your world, Chloe.
