Was Chris Brown’s Concert in Guyana Canceled Because of Protests?

Unfortunately for members of Team Breezy in Guyana, Chris Brown won’t be visiting anytime soon — though the reasoning behind that varies depending on who you ask. Brown was slated to perform in the South American country on Dec. 26, but the show was cancelled. What happened?

Initial reports said that the Guyana show was scrapped because protests from domestic violence advocates and women’s rights groups made Brown “uncomfortable.” (For those who have been under a rock, Brown is still on probation following his 2009 on then-and-likely-current girlfriend Rihanna.)

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time Brown’s performances have created ire and outrage across the globe. Two weeks ago, protesters in Sweden plastered Stockholm with images of Rihanna’s battered face from the night of the assault in protest of Brown’s Nov. 19 concert in the city.

However, Breezy’s camp denies that protesters were the reason Brown backed out. E! Online reports that the ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ singer’s rep denied there was a show officially booked at all. “This concert was never confirmed,” Brown’s publicist said. “The promoter is being untruthful.”

While the public may not have forgiven Brown’s transgressions, Rihanna has. The pair collaborated on a track for ‘Unapologetic’ and even spent Thanksgiving together in Berlin.
