Chris Brown’s ‘Fortune’ Poised for No. 1 Debut
Billboard reports that ‘Fortune,’ Brown’s fifth studio album, will be his second to top the charts in its first week, following the record’s predecessor, ‘F.A.M.E.’ ‘F.A.M.E.’ moved roughly 270,000 units within its first week, while ‘Fortune’ is expected to sell between 125 and 140,000 copies. While it’s a pretty steep drop, it’s still an accomplishment — and likely more a reflection of the music industry’s business model than of Brown’s own merits, seeing as the public has largely (but certainly not entirely) put his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna behind them.
‘Fortune’ was met with a multitude of delays. The album was originally scheduled for a May release, but got pushed to July 3. Five singles have already been released from ‘Fortune,’ including ‘Turn Up the Music,’ which hit No. 10 on the Hot 100. Breezy most recently released the poppy tune ‘Don’t Wake Me Up,’ which he performed in a medley with ‘Turn Up the Music’ at the 2012 BET Awards.
In addition to Brown’s own hits, he’s a featured artist on David Guetta‘s ‘I Can Only Imagine’ with Lil Wayne. The video was just released, and if Guetta, Weezy and Brown’s track records are any indication, the song should be blowing up on radio in 3 … 2 …
Brown’s earned this ‘Fortune,’ and good for him!
