See Lost Footage of Chris Farley Voicing ‘Shrek’

Here's some interesting movie trivia for you: Did you know the late comedian, Chris Farley, was originally slated to voice the titular character for the massively successful DreamWorks animated movie Shrek?

Uproxx reports that Farley shot a fair amount of production footage for the movie, ultimately recording around 80-90% of the audio for the film before his death. Once he passed away, the studio brought in Farley's fellow SNL alum Mike Myers for the lead role and Shrek as the general public knows him came to life.

It’s an interesting departure from the Shrek that ultimately came to be — Farley’s interpretation of the character is, as his brother Kevin told Yahoo!, “a little bit more like Chris, like a fumble, bumbling, innocent guy.”

The sudden resurfacing of this footage follows the recent release of a documentary about the late comedian titled I Am Chris Farley. Directors Brent Hodge and Derik Murray put together a retrospective look at Farley’s life, impressive career and his tragic demise. Despite seeking treatment over 17 times for obesity and drug abuse, Farley ultimately succumbed to his demons, dying of a drug overdose in 1997. He was 33-years-old at the time of his death.

The documentary sees many of Farley’s fellow comedians pay their respects to him, including appearances from David Spade, Adam Sandler, Bob Odenkirk, Bob Saget, Mike Myers and a slew of SNL writers.
