'X Factor' contestant Chris Rene sang a rather unoriginal version of Rose Royce's 1978 song 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' in hopes of being one of the three members of L.A. Reid's team to survive tonight's elimination.

You'd have to be pretty heartless to root against Rene in life, as he's overcome addictions and has been making efforts to re-connect with his son, who ended up in foster care six years ago. But that doesn't make him particularly unique or memorable as a performer, and truthfully, his two minutes onstage was out of our heads almost as soon as it was over.

Reid's fellow judges, naturally inclined to knock down members of the other team in hopes of pumping up their own performers, were actually pretty generous to Rene. Paula Abdul questioned the song choice, but admitted that the singer was "infectious." Simon Cowell said that while Rene wasn't the best natural singer on the show, he may end up being the most suitable recording artist. Reid of course, was all in, calling his protege "original."

Still, Reid had to cut one of his four team members tonight -- and luckily for Rene, it wasn't him.
