In an effort to keep things pure and real, Chris Rene kicked it old school on tonight's performance episode of 'X Factor,' delivering not a decade-old pop song, but his own tune, 'Young Homie.'

Before his final number, Rene revealed that he was literally saved by the music -- he has stayed clean since his first steps on to the 'X Factor' stage, which was his promise to L.A. Reid. Tonight, his delivery of 'Young Homie' -- his original which was also his audition song -- proved that music is in fact Rene's new drug, as he blew us all away.

"I love what you just did, and I hope everybody got it and will vote for you," Reid, Rene's mentor, told him. "I'm proud of you, Chris."

"You are magic!" Paula Abdul chirped gleefully, jumping out of her seat. "You make everyone fall in love with you!" But perhaps Simon Cowell summed it up best when he said, "Chris, that was your $5 million song."

The 'Young Homie' delivery was Rene's final performance before the big 'X Factor' winner is revealed, and we think he put the stamp on his chances. The 'X Factor' finale airs on Thursday, Dec. 22 on FOX.
