Cody Simpson Performs on ‘Today’ Show, Announces Acoustic Album
Cody Simpson is getting back to his roots: acoustic music.
The 16-year-old Aussie, who gained fame with a series of solo YouTube videos, is releasing an EP next month of acoustic tunes. He made the announcement on the 'Today' show this morning (Oct. 21), in a visit timed to promote his book, 'Welcome to Paradise: My Journey,' out tomorrow.
The five-track 'Acoustic Sessions,' which drops Nov. 19, is available for preorder here. Cody performed one of its tunes, 'La Da Dee,' on the broadcast.
We already knew he could knock out a knockout acoustic version of the 'Surfer's Paradise' single, but he took the 'Today' performance to a whole new level: He started the song while seated in the studio beside Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, then kept singing and strumming as he walked through hallways and out the door, to a waiting, screaming crowd on the plaza. He never skipped a beat, and Matt later joked that Cody "ditched" the co-hosts.
In a short interview segment just before the performance, Cody shared advice for other young performers. "I think it's important just to be able to believe in your own abilities rather than letting other people dictate your goals and your ambitions," he says. "If you want to go and do something, set your mind to it and don't let other people alter that."
