While his wife Gwyneth Paltrow is soaring in her music career, Chris Martin could be putting his on hold. Rumor has it that the release of the long-anticipated new Coldplay record might be delayed until October.

Celebrity gossip site Perez Hilton reports that Coldplay's fifth studio album has been postponed from the 'expected' May/June release date to October. "Stay strong, Coldplay enthusiasts! The new album sounds pretty interesting … There's a good chance it'll be worth the extremely long wait," the post says.

But the band's rep says there was never a solid release date to begin with -- so if the record doesn't show its face until October, or even January of 2012, it isn't really considered "delayed."

Though, Perez is right about a few things -- it has been three years since the release of Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' -- and even fairweather fans are becoming antsy for some new tunes.

So when will the new Coldplay album make its way to record store shelves? At this rate, we may never know. The band is scheduled to headline England's Glastonbury Festival in June, alongside rockers U2 and R&B queen Beyonce.
