Daniel Radcliffe has returned to the Big Apple once again to star on Broadway in the show ‘The Cripple of the Inishmaan.’ He may have moved on from his days as the Boy Who Lived, but in a recent visit to CBS New York’s ‘The Couch,’ the British actor revealed that the idea of reprising the role in J.K. Rowling’s new ‘Harry Potter‘ spin-off trilogy, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,’ is still possibly on the table.
When asked if he would ever return to the character of Harry Potter in the upcoming franchise, Radcliffe didn’t say yes — but he also didn’t say no.
“I would obviously never close the door on something like that entirely because it would be foolish to. But I don’t know under what circumstances I could be convinced that it would be a good idea to do it again, just because I’m going to be 25 this year and Harry’s a character that sort of ended at the age of 17,” he replied honestly. “I’m getting a little long in the tooth to be wearing a schoolboy’s outfit now. Yeah, I’m not sure.”
While the jury’s still out on Radcliffe’s return to the character of Harry Potter, the actor has his plate full working on other projects: Not only will he return to the stage on April 20, he also stars in the upcoming romantic comedy ‘What If.’
“It’s about … two characters who meet at a party, and there’s kind of an instant connection between them. I have a huge crush on her, she has a boyfriend, so I decide to deny the fact that I’m in love with her and just try and be her best friend,” Radcliffe explains. “And we try and kind of negotiate those very tricky waters as she’s falling for me and struggling with that as well.”
And the versatile actor, who has also starred in the Broadway musical ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,’ says he’d totally be up for doing a movie musical — well, a non-traditional movie musical.
“I fancy the idea of a really weird, indie musical written by Regina Spektor or somebody like that,” he tells the hosts. “I think that would be awesome. I think she could write an awesome musical.”
We’d love to see that happen!
