Listen to Demi Lovato’s ‘I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me’ Bonus Track
Demi Lovato‘s ‘Demi’ comes out on Tuesday (May 14), and though she’s released songs for streaming leading up to its official release, there are some tracks Lovatics couldn’t get their mitts on yet. One of those is ‘I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me,’ a bonus track available only on Target’s copies of ‘Demi,’ but it hit the Internet just ahead of ‘Demi’ dropping.
The song is an acoustic ballad about the confusion and fear that come with falling in love. Lovato sounds genuinely heartbroken and scared on the song. She starts out softly, using audible control as she sings, “I hate you / Don’t leave me / I feel like I can’t breathe / Just hold me / Don’t touch me / I want you to love / But I need you to trust me / Stay with me / Set me free.”
As the song progresses, Lovato begins to plead more and more strongly for her paramour to stay despite her contrariness and commitment-phobia: “I’ve been here too many times before / Been abandoned / And I’m scared now / I can’t handle / Another fallout / I’m fragile / Just washed upon the shore.”
The message of the song is basically ‘Give Your Heart a Break’ — but with the roles reversed. But let’s be honest: Anyone who leaves Lovato is sort of nuts, because she rules. (Joe Jonas, are you listening?!)
