Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus go way back. The roots of their friendship are deep.

While Cyrus is twerking, espousing her love for green stuff and partying hard, her pal Lovato walks the straight and narrow, since she has to, given the potential triggers and the personal / physical issues she has endured over the past two years. D. Lov has offered some words of concern for Cyrus, but it's not exactly an edict or an intervention. She's just looking out for her gal pal.

"She knows how I feel about the whole partying thing," Lovato said. "I love her to death and I'm always like, 'Just be careful' and she's like, 'Dude, I'm chilling. It's fine.' But I care for her so much that I'm so protective, but she's good. She's got a good head on her shoulders."

Even though Demi and Miley are going head-to-head at this year's VMAs with their 'Heart Attack' and 'We Can't Stop' videos in the Best Female Video category, respectively, Lovato spoke positively of her pal's new hit, a party anthem, saying, "I think it's a good song... It's a song a lot of people have fun to and if people are enjoying it, then great."

Lovato recently opined about the drug-related death of 'Glee' star Cory Monteith, saying she has to avoid the clubs so she isn't tempted. Cyrus, on the other hand, is going wild!

Different strokes for different former Disney folks.
