Demi Lovato used to party hard -- a little too hard. Now that the starlet has spent time in rehab and recovery, she's getting used to a much cleaner, calmer lifestyle, and New Year's Eve was no exception. The 'X Factor' judge rang in 2013 not with champagne, but with java!

"Two years ago, I watched the ball drop on TV in rehab and cried my eyes out," Lovato tweeted last night (Dec. 31). "Tonight I'm on the beach with my closest, most loyal friends," she wrote. She added, "Sipping coffee and sharing how beautiful life is and how far we've come. Recovery is a beautiful thing friends. Life is good, God is great!"

Demz is no stranger to dark times, and her openness about her problems, which included bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and drug abuse, makes her a role model to many. She's hyper aware of that fact and goes out of her way to inspire and advise her fans who may be tempted to drink from the devil's cup on Dec. 31.

Lovato concluded with an urge to dream big and be safe to bid adieu to 2012 and welcome 2013. The 'Give Your Heart a Break' singer encouraged Lovatics, "Everyone please be careful and smart tonight. NYE is about celebrating the past year and the year to come. Set goals and dream big #2013..."

Lovato added a special, specific message for her younger fans who may have felt some peer pressure to booze it up on NYE. "By the way," she wrote, "just reminding teens out there that you don't have to drink on NYE to have fun. Be the difference." Demi is the difference already. It's good to know that she practices what she preaches!
