On Tuesday's 2.5-hour live 'X Factor,' the goal was to narrow 17 acts down to 12. In our opinion, Dexter Haygood made that a little bit easier.

Sandwiched between much undeniable talent, the rocking hopeful kicked off the over 30s category performances with an interesting mashup of Britney Spears' 'Womanizer' and Katy Perry's 'I Kissed a Girl.' Dex sported his best rock star apparel and gave it his all, substituting "superstar" in place of "womanizer" in Spears' tune and using Perry's catchy chorus to pump up the crowd.

While we loved Haygood's current day song picks, his delivery wasn't what we'd expect to see in the final stages of 'X Factor' -- though the judges didn't seem to see the same cringe-worthy rendition.

"Dexter, I think you found him," L.A. Reid told the wild-haired hopeful. "You think I found who?" Haygood replied, obviously as confused as the rest of us. "I think you found Dexter," Reid clarified.

While we were thrown by the Grammy-winning record exec's seemingly optimistic feedback, we were even more surprised that the scowling Simon Cowell gave it two thumbs up, too. He called out to the line "It felt so wrong / It felt so right" from Perry's 2008 hit to explain that, "in a weird way, that's what I felt."

"It's like the weirdest milkshake in the world, but I kind of like the taste of it," Simon added, oddly. "I like you because you're interesting and you're unpredictable."

As for coach Nicole Scherzinger? She was just happy that Haygood made it to the stage on time. She told him, "I'm so proud of you -- you remembered your lyrics!"

We were pretty shocked, too.
